Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance Volunteer

Caroline is a volunteer with the Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance(BDAA).  She works for a Domiciliary Care Agency but as recently joined the BDAA committee as secretary. “I have done this for two reasons – one is to increase my knowledge and awareness of dementia at a time when it is increasing and impacting on more people and the second is my own personal experience of dementia as my father, passed away from vascular dementia a few years ago.”

Apart from sitting on the committee and doing the secretarial work Caroline has recently completed the training to become a Dementia Champion. A volunteer who encourages others to make a positive difference to people living with dementia in their community by giving information about the personal impact of dementia and what they can do to help. Caroline said that “BDAA has plans to give talks to local groups such as The Guides Association and WI.  We hope that this work will help Bexhill to become a much more dementia friendly place to live and work”.

Caroline was interviewed at The Stroke Association Stroke Recovery Service launch and networking event at St Paul’s Centre, Stone Cross on Thursday 18th May. You can watch Caroline speak about her experience of volunteering HERE.
